What did your mom teach you about leadership? I want to hear from all of you who might have some words of wisdom!

Funny that usually we are blaming our mothers for what they inadvertently did to us. We joke about being in therapy because of guilt or some other burden our moms hoisted upon us. While some of that is true of course, there is much to thank our Mothers for too.
Here are some gems that I learned from my Mom:

Always wear clean underwear (this has really come in handy).
Always be nice to people-you never know when it will come back around to bite you.
Never talk about people in a mean spirited way.
Always help the underdog-compassion is what matters in the end.
Try everything at least once.

So there you go, a little bit about me and my philosophy. Later

Change...what others have said about it.

Change has been a "hot topic" for centuries. Think about some of the changes our forefathers had to face...coming to America leaving everything and everyone they knew behind. Declaring independence and fighting a war to achieve that independence. Moving West and setting up a homestead. Well, just for fun here are some quotes that others have spoken regarding change.

If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it. ~ Mary Engelbreit

It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory. ~ W. Edwards Deming

All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another. ~ Anatole France

When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. ~ Victor Frankl

The man who looks for security, even in the mind, is like a man who would chop off his limbs in order to have artificial ones which will give him no pain or trouble. ~ Henry Miller

There is a certain relief in change, even though it be from bad to worse! As I have often found in traveling in a stagecoach, that it is often a comfort to shift one's position, and be bruised in a new place. ~ Washington Irving

Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof. ~ John Kenneth Galbraith

The only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions. ~ Ellen Glasgow

Growth is the only evidence of life.
~ John Henry Newman, Apologia pro vita sua, 1864

Time, which changes people, does not alter the image we have retained of them.
~ Marcel Proust

If you want to make enemies, try to change something. ~ Woodrow Wilson

After you've done a thing the same way for two years, look it over carefully. After five years, look at it with suspicion. And after ten years, throw it away and start all over. ~ Alfred Edward Perlman, New York Times, 3 July 1958

Continuity gives us roots; change gives us branches, letting us stretch and grow and reach new heights. ~ Pauline R. Kezer

Things do not change; we change. ~ Henry David Thoreau
